99 Days to Tough Mudder

After several years of having this blog, I've finally signed up for a race - the Tough Mudder in Phoenix on January 14th, 2012.  I thought I better get a couple races in before December 21, 2012, if you know what I mean.  (If you don't know what I mean you might want to read up on the Mayan Calendar.  Supposedly our planet will align exactly with the sun and a huge black hole in the Milky Way, which will turn the North Pole into the South Pole, the earth will open up, human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!)  Anyways....

So I have 99 days to train, am 5' 7" and weigh 227 pounds.  I've been doing a modified version of P90X for the past 2 1/2 weeks that goes like this:

Monday: Chest & Back
Tuesday: Ab Ripper X, 3 Miles of Interval Training (Run/Walk within 65% to 75% of Karnoven Heart Rate)
Wednesday: Shoulders & Arms (By far my favorite workout!)
Thursday: Ab Ripper X, 3 Miles of Interval Training
Friday: Legs & Back
Saturday: Yoga X, 3 Miles of Interval Training

My goal is to finish out P90X with four weeks to go before race day, and then do the custom Tough Mudder workout from the website: http://toughmudder.com/training-prep/ three times a week.  My goal is to eventually look like the guy in the video.

I did kind of my own workout last night (definitely not as tough as the dude on the website) - I did AbRipper X, ran 1/2 mile, did intervals for another mile until I got to the river, jumped in and submersed myself completely (66 degrees outside), and then did intervals for the 1.5 miles back to my car all in the dark of night at 8pm.  I felt awesome - or maybe it was the euphoria from stage 1 hypothermia - I don't know.  But I felt tough.  Anyways, time for some P90X Legs and Back.

Later!
